What Made Kelsea Ballerini Say "OK, Blake [Shelton]” to Adam Levine on The Voice

Drag him, Kelsea!

By Elizabeth Logan

Did all the years sitting next to Blake Shelton rub off on Adam Levine? The OG Coach is back for Season 27 of The Voice, and brand-new Coach Kelsea Ballerini has noticed a bit of twang in his voice, and not just when he's trying to get country Artists.

Adam Levine's Southern side came out during the Voice Battles

How to Watch

Watch The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Levine was born and raised in Los Angeles, so no, he has no roots in anything country. But after Artists BD.ii and Antonio Ramsey faced off in the Battle round, he found himself going a little cowboy. "BD, you know, I turned around for you. Four-Chair Turn. Kelsea blocked me," he reflected, prompting John Legend (who got BD.ii on his team as a result) to joke, "What a shame."

"Dang it," added Ballerini. "Drat," said Legend. "Dern," continued Ballerini. Not wanting to miss out on the back-and-forth, Levine chimed in with a "dang nabbit," at which Ballerini looked shocked and said, "OK Blake!" (In reference to Blake Shelton, OG Voice Coach and America's cowboy.)

"I stand by the fact that I blocked Adam," Ballerini later added, and Legend agreed: "I stand by it, too." Viewers may remember that Ballerini used a Block to take Levine out of the running for BD.ii, only for the Artist to choose Team Legend. At the time, Legend thanked Ballerini for taking Levine out of the equation.

BD won the round, so Levine never got his chance to steal. Dang nabbit, indeed.

"I miss Blake," Levine admitted in the first episode of the season, joking, "I’m in his mangy, musty chair." In the second , Levine told his fellow Coaches, "I just texted Blake and said, 'I’m in your stupid chair,'" probably hoping to update them with a response from Shelton. When he didn't get one, he texted again. And again.

Levine followed up with 10 more texts, writing, "God I hate you...Haha...Haha...Are you getting these?...Stop being lame...You made at me?...Whatever idiot...I just farted in your chair...Because I hate you. ...Fine whatever. You suck eggs." Ultimately, Shelton got the last laugh, hitting Levine with a cold, "Unsubscribe."
