How “Magic,” “Unique” Darius J.’s “Different Spark” Got Him 2 Steals & a Save

The Voice Coaches decided he was too special to go home.

Thanks to his soaring high note, Britton Moore narrowly edged out his The Voice Battle round partner Darius J. during their rendition of "Creep" by Radiohead. But with his unique voice and sparkly personality (and wardrobe), Darius was simply too good to go home.

“As if I wasn’t nervous enough!” the Artist joked when he saw that the Battle Advisor to Team Adam Levine was none other than Kate Hudson. Darius J. and Moore were able to find a beautiful harmony during "Creep" rehearsals by blending their very different voices.

“The lyrics resonate so deeply with me. There was a time in my life when I fell into a dark place and I had some addiction issues," he revealed, adding that he was "homeless" at times, but always, "the light in that dark place was music.”

After the two performed, the Coaches were glowing in their feedback for Darius J. “There’s no one like you,” said Kelsea Ballerini. “I love that you love it,” added Michael Bublé. Meanwhile, John Legend praised Darius J.'s "creative choices with how [Darius] styled that song."

Levine chose Moore as the winner of the round, but the moment Darius J. became available, Ballerini swooped in with a Steal, followed by Bublé. Then, Levine smashed his button for a Save. "I love you!" pleaded Ballerini.

"I appreciate all of you for seeing something special in me, but I gotta stick with Adam,” the Artist said.

For his Blind Audition, Darius J. delivered a rendition of Usher's "Caught Up" that had all four Coaches dancing in their red chairs. "What’s your name, where are you from, and where have you been all my life?" Bublé asked. "You are a complete joy, you rock, thank God for you," he added.

Legend called Darius' performance "spicy," and Ballerini praised him as well, saying that he is "such an Artist."

Levine called Darius' performance a "magical ride." And after the Maroon 5 frontman recruited the Artist, Ballerini mourned him. "Yeah, that hurt," she said.

You can watch The Voice Season 27 on Mondays at 8/7c on NBC. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
