With host Kelly Clarkson away from the action, Brook Shields temporarily took the reins during the March 10 episode, but that didn't mean viewers were in any shortage of tunes while watching the Emmy-winning talk show. Shields made some house calls and scored a performance from Motown icon Smokey Robinson to tide viewers over until Clarkson's return, and he was happy to give us a taste of what's to come from his 2025 album.

"Kelly always starts out with music, and since she's not here, we have a legend to sing for you," Shields revealed while introducing Robinson to the stage. "He's an Angel. He's one of the most talented, most accomplished singer-songwriters ever. Not to mention the most beautiful eyes in music. Now we have a treat because instead of doing Kellyoke today, in his honor, this is the show's first-ever Smokey-Oke."

Robinson has been tearing down the house for decades, and he served up that signature energy during his appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Feast your eyes on Robinson's sultry performance of "Be Thankful for What You've Got" from the March 10 episode.

As Robinson is gearing up for the April 2025 release of his new album What the World Needs Now, he was happy to give a sneak peek during his Kelly Clarkson Show pop-in. The album promises re-recordings of some of Robinson's most cherished hits and two new covers: Bill Withers' "Lean On Me" and William DeVaughn's 1974 single "Be Thankful For What You've Got."

Robinson selected DeVaughn's hit for his Smokey-Oke performance, instantly mesmerizing the audience with his timeless vocals and effortless magnetism. The 85-year-old Motown star glided through each note angelically, transforming the studio into a hypnotic nightclub filled with his lulling vocals. Robinson never fails to deliver a high-energy performance, so the crowd went wild.

Shields was excited to chat about Robinson's new music following the performance and couldn't help but comment on the Motown legend's dreamy eyes.

"Look at these eyes, it's insane!" Shields complimented.

"You've got a nerve," Robinson teased (after all, this pair of stars both have a striking set of eyes).

"You're so beautiful," Shields gushed before diving into Robinson's new album. Robinson revealed that when making the album, he wanted to create a lineup of "inspirational" songs. "Not spiritual," Robinson clarified. "Inspirational."

Robinson then explained that the album's title was inspired by Jackie DeShannon's 1965 single "What the World Needs Now Is Love," a sentiment he can get behind.

"So true," Robinson told Shields.

"We need [love]," Shields agreed. "We need it all around."

"Desperately, absolutely," Robinson affirmed.

"And we need you to tell us to have it because we'll listen to you," Shields told Robinson with a smile.

"I'm telling you," Robinson said, then turning to the audience for grand effect. "Have love."
