Savannah Guthrie & Hoda Kotb's Harmonies Singing "Country Roads" Are Radio-Ready

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb could be country music's next big duo!

By Christopher Rosa

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb are the best of friends — and up until recently, were co-workers on the TODAY show. (Kotb left the morning show in January after a 26-year career with NBC News.) They bump into each other on vacation. They sing each other's praises whenever they get the chance. And sometimes, they actually literally sing together.

How to Watch

Watch The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC weeknights at 11:35/10:35c and next day on Peacock

Such an occasion happened a few years back on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Guthrie and Kotb stopped by the show as guests, but they left as country music stars. (Well, kind of!) Why? The two decided to engage in a little impromptu musical performance of the classic song "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by John Denver, and they crushed it.

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb could be country music's next big duo

Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb smile together on the Today show Season 73.

Guthrie didn't plan this, but the outfit she wore for her Tonight Show appearance was fitting for a country music queen: black booties paired with a sparkly purple skirt and her hair in a ponytail. (Taylor Swift would absolutely approve!)

Kotb's look was also giving music superstar: She wore a just-as-sparkly black top, paired with sleek black pants, and heels. Trust that both she and Guthrie brought their A-games when it came to the performance. Not only was their guitar-playing smooth and pleasant, their soft voices meshed really well together and were nicely punctuated by Host Jimmy Fallon's impassioned vocals. Watch for yourself, below:

Kotb's last day on TODAY was Friday, January 10, and it was emotional both for her and Guthrie.

"There’s no way there wasn't going to be tears,” Guthrie said on TODAY after Kotb announced her exit. “Hoda, we love you so much. And when you look around and see these tears, they're love. You are so loved."

"And honestly, I don't think any of us can imagine – we don’t want to imagine this place without you,” Guthrie continued. “So it's complicated, because we love you so much and we don't want you to ever go. But also, I just want to say, I am so proud of my friend.”

Guthrie also added, "We love you enough to let you go shine, run after your dreams, and go find this next chapter. We frankly can't wait to see what you do, but we'll just be here waiting for you."
