Harrison Ford Was Alarmingly Chill When Jimmy Fallon Let Him Pierce His Ear [VIDEO]
"This is an awful idea," the then-Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Host joked.
Harrison Ford is no stranger to creating classic TV moments — just look back at the time he pierced Jimmy Fallon's ear in front of a gasping audience.
During the November 2013 Late Night with Jimmy Fallon appearance, Fallon asked Ford why he decided to get his ear pierced in his 40s.
"It was a friend of mine's birthday, and we had a kind of long lunch," Ford recalled. "And there were two of them, and they're looking at me across the table, and they both had earrings."
"I thought, 'What the hell? What's the matter with me? Why don't I have an earring?' So I walked out from lunch... and I walked to the first place that had a little thing in the window that said, 'We pierce ears,'" he explained. "I went home and my kid looked at me. He was about 9 years old and he looked and said, 'Is that real?' And I said, 'Yeah.'"
"He said, 'Can I get one? And I said, 'Yeah, when you're 55, you can get one,'" Ford continued.
Ford's son wasn't the only one inspired by his piercing: Fallon then revealed they actually had all of the instruments on-hand for the Indiana Jones icon to pierce Fallon's ear right then and there.

"Because he's one of the coolest people in history and I want to be like him, I've asked Harrison Ford to pierce my ear. I've never had my ear pierced. I'm very scared about this," Fallon told the audience, as Ford stood behind him in a white doctor's coat.
After taking a shot of tequila and slipping on some plastic gloves, Ford asked Fallon if he would prefer a piercing gun or needle. But since Fallon wanted his left ear pierced — just like Ford — he had to do it with a giant needle.
Ford had Fallon hold the needle as he put on his glasses, prompting Fallon to really second-guess his decision."You don't even have 20/20 vision! This is an awful idea," Fallon joked.
After marking the spot with a Sharpie and applying a topical anesthetic, the Shrinking star drove the needle through Fallon's ear lobe, successfully giving the late night Host a his first piercing.
Fallon's new earring flaunted a giant red feather hanging from it — something that looked straight out of Margaritaville. Which is appropriate, since it turns out it was singer Jimmy Buffett who inspired Ford to get his ear pierced in the first place.

"I remember one day that a long — some might say boozy — lunch with Jimmy and Ed Bradley, and it was Bradley's birthday. I saw both of them had earrings. So right after lunch, I got my ear pierced," Ford told the audience at an April 2024 Hollywood Bowl event honoring the late singer. "That's just how infectious Jimmy's coolness is."

"Infectious enough for a 40-year-old man to spontaneously get his f---ing ear pierced. And infectious enough to create an entire culture around his music," he continued. "There is no other way to say it: There will never be another like Jimmy."
