Tate McRae Says Singing with Her Boyfriend on "I Know Love" Was "Nerve-Racking"
The "Sports Car" singer collaborated with The Kid Laroi on her So Close to What album.
For Tate McRae, it was "a little nerve-wracking" collaborating with her boyfriend on her So Close to What album.
The "Sports Car" singer, who returns to Saturday Night Live as Musical Guest on March 1 with Host Shane Gillis, stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on February 25 for her first late-night interview. McRae revealed that it was surprisingly strange at first to record with The Kid Laroi on her album track "I Know Love."
"The first time we ever sang in front of each other was actually at my MSG [Madison Square Garden] show last year," she told Jimmy Fallon. "I mean, we just fake sing in front of each other all the time. So even when we were at our show last year, we were sitting in soundcheck like... 'Are you going to sing first?'"
"Literally, we had never done it before," McRae continued. "So it was the same kind of situation in the studio."
"Did you start laughing or were you just like, 'Hey: You sound good?'" asked Fallon.
"Yeah, I was just like, 'Can you, like, not listen?'" McRae answered with a laugh.
At a recent Spotify listening party for So Close to What, McRae spoke about what it was like to record with Laroi, telling fans (quotes via Billboard), “It was a really funny process, because me and Laroi have never really taken each other seriously."

During her Tonight Show appearance, McRae shared that it was actually Glenn Powell — whom she does "Pilates with sometimes" — who put her in touch with the Euphoria star.
"He connected us... Sydney was such a legend," McRae told Fallon. "She just sent me like ten versions of this little voice-memo thing, and it was, like, three days before the release. She was the absolute best for doing it. So it was so cool."
