Lady Gaga and Bowen Yang Ban These Overused Slang Terms in SNL's "No More Slay" Song

According to the hilarious musical number, "reheating nachos" is already over.

By Christopher Rudolph

"Slay." "Period." It's giving." These days it seems like you can have entire conversations with just a handful of overused slang terms, but Bowen Yang and Lady Gaga are here to put a stop to it.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and Peacock, streaming next day on Peacock.

In "No More Slay," a sketch from the March 8 Saturday Night Live episode hosted by Mother Mayhem — Yang and Gaga play Xander and Pia, two besties brunching with their friends (Andrew Dismukes, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, and Ashley Padilla), who can't stop repeating phrases that are all over social media.

"We have to tell you guys something so important that we have to sing it to you," Xander tells the group, before standing up — with microphone in hand — launching into the "No More Slay" musical number. "We can't just repeat one word when there's so many more to use," he sings.

"So we've made a big decision for all of us and you," Pia joins in, as they both implore their friends "no more slay."

"We know it sounds impossible, but there's other words to say," the duo sings. "From now on, when something rocks, we'll just say, 'Wow, I like that,' and then we'll stop."

"Delulu" is just one of the slang terms Lady Gaga & Bowen Yang are over

"Slay" isn't the only conversation casualty. Other words that are now banned include "bop," "delulu," "flex," "living," "bae," and "sus." "Just say good or bad instead," Xander and Pia suggeset.

The newest term on the list is "reheating nachos" — which Gaga evidently knows all about.

"That one's actually new, but let's just nip it in the bud before CNN learns it too," they continue to croon.

Their friends plead to let them keep saying terms they think are hip. But as Xander tells them, "if it's cool, it wouldn't be on an Olipop can." Harsh, but true.

Finally, the gang starts to realize that their slang slinging has gotten out of control, with Dismukes' character admitting, "I named my son Mother."

Per Bowen Yang's Instagram story on March 10, the sketch was written with Celeste Yim and Alison Gates. Remember their tune next time you're out to brunch... though dare we say "No More Slay" is... a bop?

The lyrics to SNL's "No More Slay"

We can't just repeat one word
When there’s so many more to use
So we've made a big decision
For all of us and you

No more slay
No more slay
We know it sounds impossible
But there's other words to say

From now on
When something rocks
Well, just say "Wow, I like that"
And then, well, stop

No more bop
No more flex
No more pooing on the mother toilet
No more feet on people’s necks

I'm confused that living
Means the same thing as dead
So enough with bae or sus
Just say good or bad instead

And no more reheating nachos
That one's actually new
Let's just nip it in the bud
Before CNN learns it too

Because on the day before the world ends
You don't want the last thing that you say to be
"This is not a slay"

No, you're not delulu
You're actually 32
You're a straight white woman
Who’s honestly 42 plus two
You’re 44, girl

No more slay
No more slay
That's not oomfie, sis, or hunty
It’s just another gay guy

No more slay
No more slay
We stole words from other people
And we're giving 'em back today
