Lady Gaga Was Hysterical in This SNL Sketch from Her 2013 Double Duty Episode

Look back at the "Abracadabra" singer's November 2013 episode before she hosts for a second time on March 8.

Lady Gaga might be Mother Monster, but she played an unhinged stage mom on Saturday Night Live in 2013.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and Peacock, streaming next day on Peacock.

The "Abracadabra" singer returns to SNL on March 8 as both Host and Musical Guest, celebrating the release of her latest studio album, Mayhem. This will be the second time Gaga has pulled double duty, the first being on the November 16, 2013 episode — which featured the hysterical "4th Grade Talent Show" sketch.

In the sketch, Gaga and Season 39 cast member John Milhiser play parents who are watching their daughter Ashley dance "The Little Cutie Pie Rag" at her school talent show. The viewers never see Ashley, or the stage — but it doesn't matter since the real show is actually in the audience.

Gaga and Milhiser are the ultimate stage parents, dancing along with their daughter from their seats as Gaga screeches, "Look at your mother! SMILE!"

Ashley's parents become Wilson Elementary's own Roxie and Velma, shimmying in front of their chairs as they energetically perform the Charleston. Their moves become more questionable as the number goes on, with the two slapping each other's butts before they both raise their legs above their heads in an unbelievable feat of flexibility.

"Ashley, look at your father!" Gaga yells at the out-of-frame Ashley, before her and Milhiser rip open their shirts to reveal they're both wearing bras underneath. Their risqué routine ends dramatically with Gaga throwing her leg over Milhiser's shoulder as confetti rains on them.

"It's weird, because Ashley ran off the stage crying and her parents are still dancing," announces the school principal (Aidy Bryant). That doesn't matter to the proud parents — they keep gyrating against each other, shouting, "Way to go, Ashley! We're so proud!"

Starring in SNL's "4th Grade Talent Show" with Lady Gaga was "a dream come true" for Little Monster John Milhiser

When SNL kicked off its 50th season in September 2024, Milhiser to share some memories of performing the sketch with Gaga in an Instagram post, calling it "the coolest moment."

"'4th Grade Talent Show' was a sketch I used to do solo. I did this character in my audition for the show," he wrote in the caption.  "When I heard Lady Gaga was coming to host in November I saved pitching it for her episode."

"I loved Gaga. She came into my dressing room, I pitched it / performed it for her and she got a literal kick out of it," he added.

"We rehearsed it in her dressing room during 'Weekend Update'... Then it was time. We were about to go live. She squeezed my hand. I leaned over to her and said, 'By the way, I’m a Little Monster.' She smiled and said, 'I had no idea,'" he continued.

"Then it was time. Then it happened. It was a dream come true," Milhiser recalled. Watch "4th Grade Talent Show" from Season 39, Episode 6 above, and stream all 50 seasons of SNL on Peacock anytime.
