Mikey Day Created "Lord Gaga," Lady Gaga's Secret Husband, to Roast Colin Jost

The "Abracadabra" singer was the Host and Musical Guest for the March 8 episode of Saturday Night Live.

By Christopher Rudolph

Ever wonder how did Lady Gaga become a lady? By marrying a Victorian-era aristocrat — Lord Gaga, of course.

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and Peacock, streaming next day on Peacock.

That's according to Lord Gaga himself (Mikey Day), who made a rare public appearance during "Weekend Update" on Lady Gaga's March 8 episode of Saturday Night Live.

But Day didn't actually create Lady Gaga's "secret husband" to talk about the "Abracadabra" singer: It wound up being a really, really long walk to a joke about "Weekend Update" co-anchor Colin Jost and his own wife, Scarlett Johansson.

Mikey Day introduces himself as Lady Gaga's husband, Lord Gaga

"How splendid did my wife look during her song? Oh, I wish she dressed like that on the estate," said Lord Gaga in his posh English accent — dressed in his best Bridgerton attire complete with tailcoat, waistcoat, and trousers — as he rolled out behind the "Weekend Update" desk.

"You know, I had no idea there was a Lord Gaga," a surprised Jost told him.

"Of course there is. How do you think she became a lady? She married a lord. That's how she became a Gaga. Whereas I was simply...born this way," Lord Gaga said with a smile, slyly squeezing in the title of one of Lady Gaga's biggest hits.

Lord Gaga is "terribly busy with business running the Gaga textile empire, and truthfully, I don't want to overshadow my wife," he explained to Jost, who assured him that probably wasn't possible.

"You must be very proud of all her accomplishments," Jost continued.

"Well, I'm glad she has a hobby," replied Lord Gaga.

"I think it's more than a hobby? She's one of the best selling musicians of all time... You didn't know that?" asked the "Weekend Update" co-anchor.

No, said Lord Gaga, "but we're very happy. It's certainly not a...bad romance," he added, dropping another Lady Gaga song title.

"And now we have seven gorgeous children. Yes — seven little monsters," Lord Gaga continued, in another wink to Lady Gaga's fervent fanbase. "Again, thank you for indulging my wife's hobby and letting her sing on your little talent show."

"I actually think she's indulging us. Your wife is very successful, sir. She has 14 Grammys and an Oscar," said Jost.

"Well, does she now? Wow, what a feather in her cap! If only it all paid," replied Lord Gaga.

SNL's Lord Gaga teased Colin Jost about having a successful wife

This is where Lord Gaga's "Weekend Update" appearance turned into a Jost roast. After Jost told him "I think it actually pays a lot," Lord Gaga said, "Well, it certainly can't be more than what textiles bring in."

Mikey Day dressed as a 19th century lord with Colin Jost.

"Oh, can you imagine, Colin, a man whose wife makes more money than he," Day's character said pointedly. "Can you imagine?"

"Oh, the shame he would feel! Imagine if I was sitting here on television behind this desk, staring at that camera, the world staring back at me, knowing that my wife's income dwarfs my own. I would die," shouted Lord Gaga. Jost just sat silently with a smirk on his face, knowing that Lord Gaga is actually talking about Jost and his wife, actress and producer Scarlett Johansson.

"Now tell me," the lord asked Jost, "What does your wife do?"

Is Lady Gaga married?

No. Or rather, not yet — she is engaged to Michael Polansky, director of the philanthropic Parker Foundation, and a board member of Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy, which sponsors cancer research.

Lady Gaga confirmed the couple's engagement during her SNL monologue on March 8, sharing that they met through her mother, Cynthia Germanotta.

"My mom called me one day, and she goes, I met your husband," Gaga explained. "And I said, what does he do? And she said, he works in cancer research. And while we were talking, I was literally smoking a cigarette."

"And then we went on three dates and I never smoked again — except when I'm drunk," she joked. The couple has been dating since 2020, per People
