What Is The Players Championship?
Informally known as golfing’s “fifth major,” the PGA Tour-owned Players Championship rates as one of professional golf’s biggest tournaments each year. Ever since Jack Nicklaus won its inaugural event in 1974, the Players Championship has attracted an invite-only annual lineup of the Tour’s top performers — a list that this year includes Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Aberg, Justin Thomas, Hideki Matsuyama, Tommy Fleetwood, Patrick Cantlay, Sungjae Im, Shane Lowry, Jordan Spieth, Wyndham Clark, Will Zalatoris, Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau — and, of course, Scottie Scheffler.
