José Andrés and Martha Stewart — two titans of the culinary world — are coming together to put 12 highly talented, egotistical chefs through their paces in a new cooking competition series, Yes, Chef!

How to Watch

Watch the series premiere of Yes, Chef! on Monday, April 28 at 10/9c on NBC.

The series, premiering on NBC on Monday, April 28, blends the high-stakes thrill of a cooking competition with the raw emotion of personal transformation as it delves into the powerful personalities attracted to the chaotic culinary lifestyle. The series puts 12 highly skilled chefs — nominated by their bosses, co-workers, friends, and even family — through the ultimate test.  These rising stars have natural talent, but their egos, intensity, stubbornness, or short fuses are holding them back from reaching their full potential.

Enter: Josè and Martha, who will guide these stubborn chefs each week through a series of intense culinary challenges designed to test and overcome their personal issues. In this competition, the chefs must prove they have the culinary chops and the right attitude to make it to the end. The chef who handles the heat, impressing with both their food and teamwork while improving their behavior, will take home the $250,000 grand prize, provided by granola brand Purely Elizabeth.

"I didn't know what it would be like working with him on something like this, but I thought it would be very interesting," Martha told PEOPLE. "And it has turned out to be very interesting, despite the fact that he hears and sees imaginary raccoons everywhere and he has rubber duckies and chickens [that he hides on set]... He likes to play around, which makes it fairly pleasant, because he could be a stiff and he could be so serious that my day would drag on. Not with José, it's always a lively and interesting adventure. Plus, he has really good things to say on the show."

The pair's combined experience both in the kitchen and in front of the camera results in a winning combination of humor and tough love to guide these chefs to the finish line.

"We've been going out to dinner, she's been coming and partying in my home for dinner, we cook together," José said. "We eat together until they kick us out of the restaurant — no, we've been behaving."

Yes, Chef! premieres on NBC on Monday, April 28, at 10/9c following The Voice.
