Hear How Alexa Wildish’s “Arresting” Voice “From Another Planet” Got Her a Battle Win
Alexa Wildish and LVNDR teamed up for a Billie Eilish hit during The Voice Season 24 Battles. Here's what happened.
Storytelling through singing is a big theme on The Voice. When the Coaches choose vocalists, it's often the singer's ability to chart an emotional journey with their performance that puts them over the top, even over technical proficiency or pure, natural singing talent. So it's no surprise that one of the latest Battles on the show was all about the power of storytelling through song.
For the latest Battle from his team, Coach Niall Horan selected Four Chair-turn winner Alexa Wildish to face off against two-chair turn LVNDR for a duet on a powerful, often heartbreaking tune from pop icon Billie Eilish: "Everything I Wanted."
"I paired these two together because I thought these were my best storytellers," Horan told the camera during rehearsals.

During the rehearsal process, Horan stressed the importance of individuality among the two singers, who brought very different styles to the song as LVNDR leaned a little closer to Eilish's own voice, while Wildish went her own way with the tune. Then, it was time for the Battle.

As the Battle progressed, both singers distinguished themselves, but by the end of the song, it was clear that Wildish's genuinely emotional performance had given her the edge over the softer, more understated work of LVNDR.
"I loved every second of that, and it's crazy because you're so, so different, it's unbelievable," Coach Gwen Stefani said after the Battle.
She continued, "Alexa, you're from another era, planet, because I haven't heard a voice like that since I was in the 1970s in the back of a station wagon listening to the radio."
As the other Coaches, including John Legend and Reba McEntire, weighed in on the Battle, it became very clear that while everyone was pleased with LVNDR's work, Alexa was the clear winner in their eyes. Still, Horan had to take a moment to make his decision, talking in circles while he tried to reason out a final choice in his head.
"Going off gut feeling, which is what happens in these Battles," he said, "because if you go in with preconceptions, they always get canceled out..."
Finally, Host Carson Daly held Horan to making a choice, and with his gut feeling guiding him, he chose Wildish to move on to the Knockouts in the coming weeks.
"LVNDR's an incredible artist, but Alexa had something different," Horan explained. "She can portray emotion in a song like nobody else in the competition. She literally had tears in her eyes performing that song today. I've got a good feeling that we're going to see a magical moment from Alexa in the Knockouts."
