Sabrina Carpenter & Paul Simon's "Homeward Bound" SNL50 Duet Was Harmonizing Gold

Their two sounded so beautiful together singing the anniversary show's cold open in Studio 8H.

By Christopher Rosa

Sabrina Carpenter and Paul Simon kicked off the SNL50 anniversary special on Sunday, February 16 with a performance of the Simon & Garfunkel classic "Homeward Bound."

How to Watch

Watch Saturday Night Live Saturdays at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and Peacock, streaming next day on Peacock.

Simon is a four-time SNL Host and 13-time Musical Guest who actually first performed "Homeward Bound" with George Harrison on the show back in 1976.

"I was not born then, and neither were my parents," Carpenter said cheekily before she and Simon kicked off their performance. The duo's voices blended together beautifully.

This is not Carpenter's first foray into the SNL universe. The pop star was the musical guest in the show's Season 49 May 18 episode, performing her smash single "Espresso." She followed the performance up with another hit song, "Please, Please, Please," a folkier, more plucky track that showed Carpenter's aptitude for songs like "Homeward Bound."

Paul Simon is a multi-decade musical icon,  also known for his early-career work in Simon & Garfunkel. The duo has seven Grammy Awards and four Grammy Hall of Fame Awards. Some of their most popular songs include "The Sound of Silence," "The Boxer," and "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

SNL50's special is a star-studded affair, featuring appearances from show icons like Will Ferrell, Kristen Wiig, and Maya Rudolph, plus Hollywood heavy-hitters like Lady Gaga, Cher and Miley Cyrus

"There are some appearances that I teared up about when I found out they would be a part of Sunday — and also, just the celebration of all of our greatest hits," SNL cast member Chloe Fineman said about the special. "We rehearsed today — it was honestly one of the most fun rehearsals I've had in six years!"
