Maggie & Ben Officially Separate on Chicago Med, But [Spoiler] Now Likes Her
As Maggie took a new legal step towards ending her marriage to Ben, she bonded with someone else at the hospital.
It’s not looking good for charge nurse Maggie Lockwood's (Marlyne Barrett) marriage on Chicago Med, as she took an emotional legal step in Season 9, Episode 5.
But while she mourned her marriage to Ben Campbell (Charles Malik Whitfield), Maggie bonded with another doctor who was checking in on a patient at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.

In the opening moments of Episode 5, Maggie and Dr. Zola Ahmad (Sophia Ali) are seen walking into Chicago Med as Maggie carries an envelope. “Wow, how does that make you feel?,” Zola asked Maggie, hinting that whatever's in the envelope likely had something to do with Maggie's pending divorce. (In the Season 9 premiere, Maggie revealed that her husband, Ben, wanted a divorce.)
Fast-forward to Episode 5, and Maggie asked Peter Kalmick, the head of the legal department at Gaffney, if there’s an in-house notary, saying that she has some papers she needs to sign. Peter said yes, and that he'd send that person down at the end of the day.
Who is Dr. Loren Johnson on Chicago Med?
Later in the day, Maggie spoke with Dr. Loren Johnson (Henderson Wade) about a patient who needed emergency surgery after losing a pregnancy weeks earlier. Dr. Johnson first appeared on Chicago Med during Season 8, and used to be a flight paramedic in the Army. He’s now a doctor and pilot.

Maggie Lockwood and Dr. Loren Johnson bond
Dr. Johnson asked Maggie if she has kids of her own.
Maggie replied, “One. She’s grown. My ex and I, we tried to adopt, but, well, that didn’t work out. What about you?”
“No. I was married young, before I went into the service, and after I got back from deployment, we both agreed that there was nothing there,” Dr. Johnson revealed to Maggie. She responded, “It’s all so hard."
Later in the episode, a notary showed up as Maggie was talking to Zola. He asked her if they can go somewhere to sign her papers and they headed to the consultation room.
Maggie Lockwood and Ben Campbell officially separate
A bit later, Maggie — flanked by Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram) and Zola — looked over a document titled “marital separation agreement” that showed that she, Ben and the notary have all signed it.
It’s an emotional moment as Maggie then took off her wedding band, declaring, “It’s real.”
“I’m sorry,” Hannah said. “Yeah,” Zola added.
Maggie told her colleagues, “Thank you for not saying, ‘Now you can move on,’ or something ridiculous like that.”
Hannah admitted, “I was tempted.”
Breaking the sadness of the heavy moment, Dr. Johnson happened to walk by the trio, and Maggie watched him with a little smile on her face as he also grinned.
Hannah and Zola caught the exchange and looked at Maggie, who laughed, but told them, “I’m not ready."
