Ritter has been crushing it throughout Season 13 of the show, fearlessly saving civilians and making some awe-inspiring CFD career moves. However, those who delight in Ritter's amazing eye rolls and fiery dedication may have noticed that he was noticeably missing from the February 19 episode of Chicago Fire. Why is Ritter gone, and where did he go? Fortunately, viewers gained some answers about the firefighter's whereabouts toward the end of the episode.

Find out why Ritter was absent from Firehouse 51 on Season 13, Episode 13 ("Born of Fire"), below.

Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) appears in Season 11 Episode 19 of Chicago Fire.

The short answer: Ritter is on vacation. Lyla "Lizzie" Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) revealed why Ritter was missing from Firehouse 51's latest madness.

"I heard Ritter called, like, a hundred times from his little mountain getaway," Novak told Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith). (They were discussing Violet's drama in the episode.)

"Yes, he did," Violet confirmed. "OK, it's very sweet for you all to worry, but really, I am fine."

So, rest easy, Chi-Hards. Ritter may be gone, but the Firehouse 51 fan favorite will be back in action soon.

Ritter's been a busy man throughout Chicago Fire Season 13

Between intense rescue calls and emotional relationship troubles, Ritter hasn't had much time to rest this season, so the firefighter's vacation is well-earned. From his transfer from Engine to Truck 81 to his disheartening breakup, Ritter's navigated some high-stakes drama. That's not even including the moment he was injured after being ejected from the second floor of a building during a call.

"What Ritter brings to the firehouse, his value there, how people see him, how they relate to him, and his value as a firefighter as well, all of those things are thrown into sharp relief [after Ritter got injured]," Kyri told Us Weekly in 2024. "You see the ways I think in which folks really care about him and the ways in which seeing one of their own takes a hit affects them."
