By Jessica White

Chicago Med Season 10 continued on with a new episode Wednesday, February 19 as Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) struggles with the tragic death of his best friend.

How to Watch

Watch Chicago Med Wednesdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock

Mitch has been dealt a harsh emotional blow, leading him to drink more than ever, flake on his girlfriend Dr. Hannah Asher (Jessy Schram), and generally slack off at work. With her own history of substance abuse, Hannah tried to confront Mitch about numbing pain with alcohol, but Mitch used her addiction against her, leading them to end the argument on a horrendous note. As Mitch fled to a bar, Hannah's worries were confirmed after a drunk civilian provoked Mitch, and the Gaffney doctor got into a bloody bar fight.

Here's what happened:

Dr. Mitch Ripley's bar fight enemy turned into his patient

Mitch Ripley (Luke mitchell) appears in Season 9 Episode 3 of Chicago Med

Mitch was worse for wear as he showed up to Gaffney, and it took Hannah no time at all to notice that he'd gained a shiner since they'd last spoken. Hannah expressed her concerns, but Mitch shrugged her away, choosing to focus on work. However, after a man named Adam was wheeled into the E.D. after arriving home drunk and severely injured from a fight, Mitch realized it was the same drunk person he'd fought hours before. Mitch was tasked with healing the damage he'd done.

Mitch was sweating bullets as he navigated the ethical tightrope of treating the man he'd physically assaulted, attempting to leverage his memory of the fight to help Gaffney resident Dr. Frost (Darren Barnet) treat Adam. Mitch initially tried to keep the altercation hidden from Frost, giving the resident "random" intel based on his "instincts." However, that tangled web began unweaving after Frost revealed Adam was going to lose his kidney, an extreme surgical measure in Mitch's mind. As Adam's condition worsened, Mitch insisted on stepping in, frustrating Frost.

"I need to do this," Mitch told Frost.

"Step aside," Frost urged him. "Now."

"It has to be me," Mitch snapped.

"Why?" Frost asked.

"Because I did this to him!" Mitch tearfully confessed as Adam began flatlining. Frost ushered Mitch away and focused on stabilizing the patient.

Mitch Ripley and Sharon Goodwin talk in Chicago Med Season 9 Episode 13

You'll have to watch more to find out the doctor's fate. Here's how the February 19, 2025 episode ended:

Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) later visited Mitch in the lounge, informing him that Adam was on his way to the kidney removal surgery with an expected full recovery. It was good news, but Goodwin remained furious.

"Saving him does not save you," Goodwin spat. "His wife is planning to sue one way or another. I'm afraid your presence in the E.D. has become a liability."

"Whatever you have to do, I understand," Mitch said.

Goodwin said she was immediately suspending Mitch without pay. "There will be a formal investigation, hearing, and judgment," Goodwin added.

"I don't intend to fight you or the board, to blame anyone else, or make excuses," Mitch told Goodwin earnestly. "I brought this on myself. I'm deeply sorry for the trouble I've caused this hospital."

"Full disclosure," Goodwin told him. "I'm recommending that the board terminate you."

"I appreciate your honesty," Mitch choked.

"You have left me no choice, Dr. Ripley," Goodwin said.

Hannah wasn't thrilled to throw salt in his wounds, but they needed to talk after she caught wind of the crisis. Mitch tried to focus on the fact that he'd fixed the issue rather than cause the problem, but his history of violent aggression did him no favors. After some intense back-and-forth, Hannah leveled with him.

"You nearly killed a man," Hannah reminded Mitch.

"But I helped save him," Mitch said tearfully. "I fixed it."

"Really? That's your takeaway?" Hannah asked, exasperated. "I don't even know what to say to you anymore."
