Why You Recognize Jocko Sims on Grosse Pointe Garden Society

The actor starred on another popular NBC drama for five seasons.

Catherine (Aja Naomi King) has gotten herself in a mess, to say the least.

How to Watch

Watch Grosse Pointe Garden Society Sundays at 10/9c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Not only has the wealthy Grosse Pointe Garden Society resident committed murder and buried the body, but she also had an affair with her co-worker, Gary (Saamer Usmani). And while she was able to get revenge after discovering he was sleeping with half the women in town, Gary hit back, appearing at her family's home — with a gun — and manipulating his way into staying in her guest house.

"She's trying to present this image of perfection and that's kind of where the fun really begins with Catherine because she's trying so hard to project this image and yet underneath you just know that she has all this dissatisfaction and yearning that's not being met," King tells NBC Insider. "So then her life starts growing wildly out of control as she makes choices that will basically kind of destroy everything she's built up, starting with having an affair and that going sideways."

Catherine's husband Tucker (Jocko Sims) is oblivious to the chaos he's just invited into his home, but something tells us that won't last for long. As we see Tucker's story unfold, get to know more about the actor who plays him — and why he looks so familiar.

Jocko Sims on New Amsterdam

Sims played Dr. Floyd Reynolds for five seasons of NBC's hit medical drama New Amsterdam, which wrapped its final season in January 2023. However, the good news for fans? A spinoff series tentatively titled New Amsterdam: Tomorrow, is currently in development at NBC and would take place 30 years into the future from the events of the series finale.

When saying goodbye to the show two years ago, Sims revealed in an Instagram caption that he initially wanted to become a doctor after graduating high school. However, the years of schooling it would take changed his mind and he fell in love with acting instead, eventually graduating with a bachelor's in theater from UCLA. The rest, as they say, is history.

Reynolds on New Amsterdam

"But after I became an actor, I always wanted to play a doctor. I watched other medical shows and dreamed of it. I never imagined it would happen. And I never imagined it would happen on America’s biggest network," he said. "Prior to this job, I worked on all the networks. ABC, CBS, Fox, Showtime, Starz, Amazon…and so on. Yet somehow NBC evaded me. Not even a co-star. So it turned out that my first job ever on NBC was playing Dr. Reynolds. A series regular. And…a doctor. It has essentially been 3 dreams come true in one."

Jocko Sims' other TV shows

Since New Amsterdam the 44-year-old has had roles on hit shows High Potential and How to Die Alone. He's also starred in The Last ShipThe ResidentMasters of Sex, and Crash.
