On Peacock's new limited series, Long Bright River, streaming now, a Philadelphia cop, Mickey (Amanda Seyfried), is searching for her missing sister, Kacey (Ashleigh Cummings) as vulnerable women are being targeted and killed in their Kensington neighborhood. While Mickey's investigation into the murders is a central part of Long Bright River, the show is also focused on addiction, police corruption, and — crucially — family bonds.
At its heart, this is "a love story between two sisters," showrunner Nikki Toscano (The Offer) told NBC Insider in a recent interview.
But what happened to Kasey? Learn more about what happened in Long Bright River's ending, below.
What happened to Kasey on Long Bright River?
In both the book and the series adaptation of Long Bright River, Kasey is ultimately found alive. She was not hiding from the killer in Kensington — but rather, she was hiding from Mickey herself.
Mickey and Kasey have a complicated relationship, as Kasey has struggled with addiction since she was a teenager. Their relationship further deteriorated after Kasey became pregnant when she was raped by Mickey's boyfriend, Simon, an older corrupt police detective who had been manipulating Mickey since she was young. Mickey ended up taking legal custody of Kasey's son, Thomas, and raising him as her own child when he was born because she knew Kasey was using drugs during the pregnancy.
So, when Kasey discovered she was pregnant again, she was afraid Mickey would take this baby as well. Kasey ended up turning to the sisters' father, who they didn't have a relationship with before because of his own issues with addiction. Now sober, Kasey and Mickey's father was able to house Kasey and help her get clean during her pregnancy.
When Mickey found out what really happened with Kasey, the two sisters were happily able to reconcile and Mickey supported Kasey as she gave birth to a baby girl.

What happened to Mickey on Long Bright River?
Mickey discovered that the person targeting and murdering vulnerable women in Kensington was her temporary police partner, Eddie Lafferty (Dash Mihok). Tired of the corruption in the force, Mickey ended up quitting her job as a police officer.
She also tried to make amends with her other police partner, Truman Dawes (Nicholas Pinnock), after suspecting he was the killer. While he told her he couldn't forgive her for that, he did have advice after Mickey revealed she was leaving the force and wasn't sure what she'd do next.
"It's a little late in life to figure out who I wanna be when I grow up," she told Truman.
Truman then offered her a peace offering of sorts, saying Mickey, who demonstrated her love for music throughout the series, "should've been a music teacher. I told you that the first time I met you."
While the ending of Long Bright River doesn't show Mickey pursuing a specific career, it does show her bonding with her son, Thomas, reconnecting with her sister, Kasey, and assuming proud aunt duties after Kasey gives birth to a baby girl.
Long Bright River is streaming now on Peacock.
