What songs has Kelsea Ballerini written about her boyfriend, Chase Stokes?

Ballerini has written numerous songs about her relationship with Stokes; her touching tributes to the Outer Banks star can be heard on her fifth studio album, Patterns. He was along for the ride during the entirety of the album's creation, leading to several Stokes-inspired singles.

“He heard it as it was happening,” Ballerini told Teen Vogue during a Patterns listening party. “This is the first time that I've gotten to make a record where he's been a part of the whole process. He would be FaceTiming into the studio with the musicians. It was really fun to bring him alongside for the whole process and be [not only] such a beautiful part of the life of this record, but of the process too."

In terms of narrowing down which Patterns tracks are specifically about Stokes, some are more blatant than others. According to Ballerini, the big picture of Patterns is the emotionally charged journey of dating and falling in love again, and since she's settled down with Stokes, he's become a powerhouse for love song generation. "I would argue that [Patterns] is the most love-filled record I've ever made," Ballerini said. "I think the presence of love in every song is at the forefront."

"First Rodeo"

While Ballerini's love for Stokes has influenced the creation of several songs, the first track The Voice Coach ever penned for her beau was "First Rodeo."

"'First Rodeo' is the first love song I wrote for Chase," Kelsea revealed during an October 25 appearance on TODAY. "Really, it's essentially the first song where it's kind of like, 'Okay, I feel a little fragile, I feel a little scared to open myself up to the capacity that I want to, but I love love, and I really love you.'"

For anyone wanting a sneak peek into Stokes and Ballerini's aww-inducing relationship, look no further than the romantic lyrics of "First Rodeo." The song expertly chronicles Ballerini's experience of falling in love and trusting again after navigating hurdles in her previous relationship. "Never knew I'd have a round two / I fell off, babe, but I found you / Take my heart, but take it slow / 'Cause this ain't my first rodeo," Ballerini sings.

"How Much Do You Love Me?"

E! reports that during Ballerini's Patterns listening party, she confirmed that "How Much Do You Love Me?" is yet another Stokes love song. "This song is the softest song on the album," she shared during the Q&A. "I remember writing it downstairs on guitar, and Chase was like, 'What's that?' And I was like, 'This is a love song for you.'"

Never faltering in her lyrical vulnerability and angelic vocals, Ballerini sings: "If I gamble away my money, would you back away? If my jokes weren't funny, would you laugh? / How much do you love me? I gotta ask / How much do you love me? / Mm, do I sound needy and dramatic? / I know that it's love / But silly me for asking how much."

Released as a limited-time exclusive digital download, "To The Men That Love Women After Heartbreak" is another song that captures Stokes and Ballerini's beautiful love story. With tear-jerking lyrics like "To the man that loved this woman after heartbreak / Thanks for all you didn't have to do / When I met you, I was jaded, sad and complicated / You'll never know how much I needed you," it's clear that Ballerini is thriving with her relationship.

In honor of Thanksgiving 2024, Ballerini shared a snippet of the song on her Instagram and tagged Stokes in a photo in her post. "I've got a heart with gratitude that is spilling over this year," she wrote in the caption.

You've got to give it up to Stokes for being the muse of a country songstress. And the fuzzy feelings are undoubtedly mutual — Stokes is loudly and proudly head over heels for Ballerini, as seen on his Instagram — jam-packed with adorable couple photos — and demonstrated by his avid support for her career. In honor of Patterns' release, Stokes shared an Instagram Story commending his girlfriend for her incredible work on the album.

"Humanity, authenticity, honesty, and a sh-t ton of vulnerability. KB, you're a once in a lifetime type of human being…" Stokes captioned the post (via Teen Vogue). "Thank you for giving yourself to the world. Thank you for letting me in yours."

Ballerini told Byrdie that she and Stokes will "always be side stage, side carpet" for each other thanks to the country-pop princess and television titan's immense adoration and respect for one another's star power. It's no wonder all that romance has served as a crucible for some seriously heartwarming singles from Ballerini.
