How to Watch

Watch new episodes of St. Denis Medical Tuesdays on NBC and next day on Peacock.

In Season 1, Episode 13, "Some Famous Internet Guy,” Colby Twill is that local singer/songwriter adored by kids who flock to his social media channels for his viral songs and comedy. For those who stay abreast of hot comedians in real life, you’ll recognize the man playing Colby is hugely popular comedian/social media star, Morgan Jay.

Known for sprinkling his original comedic songs — like the hit “Friend Zone” — into his clever, interactive stand-up sets, Jay has a devoted fanbase around the globe. They consistently ensure that he sells out all his venues and continue to follow him in droves on all of his social media handles, including his 2.2 million Instagram followers.

Jay added to his library of compositions by writing Colby Twill original concert bop about farting. NBC Insider recently spoke with Jay about how he got the role, coming up with that memorable song and if Twill could show up again on the series.

Morgan Jay goes sort of serious for St. Denis Medical

Jay said that he was connected to St. Denis Medical through his agent who thought this was a perfect match for his talents. "I'm a musician and a comedian. The character of Colby is a musician, so I think those two kind of made perfect sense,” he said of the kismet of his casting.

What is surprising though is that for most of the episode, Twill is dealing with a serious health crisis and doesn’t really get to be funny until the very end performance.

"I really enjoyed that because honestly, it wasn't a stretch for me,” Jay said about getting to play against expectations. "I could just be myself and have fun with it. It was like the best of both worlds. I got to be myself, and then at the end of the show, I got to do an actual performance."

For that much-delayed performance that rounded out the episode, Jay said they did that live with the kids amped up and responding to his lyrics.

"I did my best to have fun between takes,” he said of working with an audience full of kids.

"There’s a lot of moving parts for that, so I didn't want to do too much. I was a guest on the show, so it wasn't 100% the Morgan Jay show,” he laughed.

For the creation of the song, Jay said he was given some basic notes from the producers and then given the freedom to give them some demos ideas.

“Obviously, there are certain guidelines when you're on a network television show,” he explained. “We wanted to make it as family-friendly and silly as possible. I gave a couple of edits, and then we had one that was simple and worked."

What song does Colby Twill sing on St. Denis Medical?

While Jay’s creation is technically Colby Twill’s song, could his new song about farting become the next viral sensation in his music catalog with an official song download?

"I don't know if that's up to me,” Jay said with genuine surprise about the song becoming available outside the episode. "I’m happy to talk to NBC about it, if they want to release it. You know, it's more fun for me. You never know what could go viral these days!"

And if not, there’s always a potential return for Twill to St. Denis Medical.

"I had a great time,” he said of his guest role. "Everybody in the cast was incredible and super funny. It was honestly an honor to work with everybody there. I even think on the way out, I must have said, 'Hey, if Colby wants to come back and do another show, let us know,’ so who knows. We'll see."
