Is a Taylor Swift SVU Cameo Possible? Mariska Hargitay Has Thoughts
The two stars have a very special connection.
Never say never to Taylor Swift guest-starring on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit one day. Just ask the show's leading lady.
In an October 2024 discussion with E! News, Mariska Hargitay went on the record by not only saying that it's a possibility, but it's a tantalizing idea that she admits she's not letting go of anytime soon.
"We can certainly dream, can't we?" she said but quickly squashed any immediate rumors before they got out of control.
"She's very busy," Hargitay conceded, but not before giving fans that she's personally rooting for it to happen: "But I'm not letting it go."
As longtime fans know, Hargitay is one of Swift's biggest supporters. In fact, she considers herself a certified Swiftie! Conversely, the pop sensation is a huge SVU fan. She loves the show so much that she actually named her pet cat Olivia Benson!
Hargitay's love for T-Swift goes way back. Hargitay has joined Swift on stage on many occasions, and there's plenty of mutual love and respect between them. During a 2015 TODAY visit, the star revealed that Swift's mega-hit "Shake It Off" had a significant impact on her personal life.

"I've certainly had thin skin at times, and things hurt my feelings, and you sit there and go, 'Why do you let that hurt your feelings?" Hargitay explained. "Shake it off and move on.' What a beautiful lesson... There are certain things in life we need to put our attention on, and there's other things we don't."
In a way, it's fitting that one of television's biggest stars would want arguably the biggest star in all of music to make a cameo on SVU one day.
(It's time to start crossing our collective fingers, everybody.)

After the pop superstar was named one of TIME's most influential people of 2015, Hargitay was tasked with writing an essay about Swift that was later published in the magazine. In that essay, fans got a first-hand account of the love between the two women.
"I'm amazed at how much earned wisdom Taylor threads into her work. She seems tuned in to the greater good, and she embraces — thoughtfully and authentically — the chance to contribute to the world," Hargitay wrote. "The haters are gonna hate, but, well, shake it off... Along with her staggering list of accomplishments, perhaps the most exciting thing about Taylor is that she's just getting started with what she plans to mine from her fierce, curious, boundlessly talented, and beautiful heart."
Of course, Hargitay couldn't resist capping the essay with one playful admission:
"Also, it doesn't hurt that she named her cat after me."
