The Tattooist of Auschwitz Teaser Trailer Showcases Heart-Wrenching Love Story
Peacock's new event series The Tattooist of Auschwitz dropped a trailer showing the horrific setting of its courageous love story.
The first teaser trailer for Peacock’s new drama The Tattooist of Auschwitz arrived offering the world a closer look at this captivating and powerful drama set in one of the worst places in human history.
The six-episode event series, which is based on the 2018 bestselling novel of the same name by Heather Morris, tells the unforgettable love story between two prisoners at the infamous titular internment camp during the Holocaust.
Inspired by real-life events, the series is set in 1942 when Lali Sokolov arrived at Auschwitz and was quickly made one of the camp’s "tätowierer" (tattooist), tasked with tattooing prisoners' arms with identification numbers. While doing that job, he meets Gita, setting the framework for their love story, which showcases their perseverance through the horrors of the Holocaust and their will to survive.

The trailer shows Lali (Jonah Hauer-King) and Gita (Anna Próchniak) together vowing to stay alive as they navigate the horrors of internment under the Nazis. Meanwhile, 60 years later, an older Lali (Harvey Keitel) shares his story with Morris (Melanie Lynskey).

“I was a young man in a terrible place, this is what it was every day,” Keitel’s Lali recounts. “But I found something there. Someone.”
What follows is a collection of harrowing scenes of cruelty and dehumanization that the Jewish prisoners of Auschwitz faced cut together with brief moments of respite when Lali and Gita can get together and remind each other to “keep living, whatever it takes.”
Not only does the trailer offer an idea of what the show will look like, but it also offers a taste of its original score by composers Hans Zimmer and Kara Talve.
The Tattooist of Auschwitz Cast
In addition to the teaser trailer, new images from the show have been released showcasing the intimate and often bleak world that the characters are living in that’s based directly on the actual Auschwitz prison camp. They also give a look at more cast members who will play integral parts of Lali and Gita’s story.
Starring in The Tattooist of Auschwitz are Jonah Hauer-King, Melanie Lynskey, Anna Próchniak, Jonas Nay, and Harvey Keitel.
When does The Tattooist of Auschwitz premiere?
The series is set to debut on Peacock on May 2, 2024.
