SVU Fans Won't Know What to Do After Hearing Stabler Call Benson "My Wife" (VIDEO)
It was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment during a Season 12 episode.
It was the moment Law & Order: Special Victims Unit fans had been waiting for... kind of.
Back in Season 12, the impossible happened — Christopher Meloni's Elliot Stabler actually referred to Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson as his wife! But, of course, there's a caveat. In a Peacock video titled "8 Times Olivia Benson & Elliot Stabler Were Perfect Partners," fans were given the opportunity to relive the epic scene over and over again.
The scene in question, from the Season 12 episode "Bombshell," sees Benson and Stabler go undercover as a married couple as they try to infiltrate a swinger's club. It's pretty much the closest thing fans have gotten to seeing Bensler "officially" together. Watch the steamy scene in its entirety here, beginning at around the 5:13 mark.
First of all, the two of them walking into the club hand-in-hand is clearly swoon-worthy on its own, isn't it? But then, Stabler raised the stakes by saying those magic words.
"This is my wife, Olivia — I'm Elliot," Stabler says to the club's host, immediately sending all SVU fans into a tizzy about what could happen if the two characters ever actually got together.

("My wife, Olivia," has such a nice ring to it!)
As the host introduces them to a completely unfamiliar world, Benson and Stabler shoot each other supportive glances as they go deeper and deeper into their undercover investigation, which is one of the sweetest things ever.
In an alternate universe, the scene proves that Bensler at least looks like the couple fans know they could be — and the tease is just too enticing!
With that being said, fans worldwide have their fingers crossed that the two characters will cross paths once again in 2025 and beyond — and even the stars themselves are confident that it will happen!
Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni credit SVU's success to their chemistry

In an early 2020 interview with Cinema Blend, Hargitay and Meloni spoke openly about their famous chemistry — and it was apparent the second they were paired up during the audition process over 25 years ago.
"I had instant chemistry with Chris at the network and as soon as they paired us up, Chris and I both knew that we were gonna get cast," Hargitay revealed. "Because I knew that he was the guy, and he said that he knew that I was the girl."
Meloni echoed her sentiment and thought their casting and undeniable on-screen chemistry were crucial for Law & Order: SVU's success.
"She and I hit it off right from the get-go… It's always been a huge part of our relationship and I think part of the success of the show," he explained.
