Surprise! Original The Office Star Returns For New Peacock Series (DETAILS)
One of our favorite characters from Dunder Mifflin is coming back to the small screen.
Fans of The Office will get a chance to catch up with a familiar face when Peacock’s new series set within the same universe of the iconic NBC comedy makes its premiere. That’s right — a fan favorite from Dunder Mifflin is coming back.
Actor Oscar Nunez, who played accountant-turned-political candidate Oscar Martinez for nine seasons of The Office, is set to return in the untitled new mockumentary series, rumored to be titled The Paper, which will find the documentary crew leaving the paper business and next following the staff of a historic Midwestern newspaper.
Oscar Nunez returning to The Office universe
No details have been confirmed about the extent of Nunez’s role, but with a show set within the same universe as The Office, there was always a chance characters fans know and love could find a way into this new story. Much like The Office before it, this new show is centered around an ensemble cast, and Nunez’s return was reportedly a part of the plan from the start they had been keeping under wraps.
As for exactly how Oscar fits into the story, no plot details have been released. But, considering The Office ended with Oscar attempting to embark on a political career in the show’s final season, having him eventually cross paths with a newspaper staff doesn’t seem all that far-fetched.
The new series hails from original The Office producer Greg Daniels, alongside Michael Koman (Nathan For You), and will follow much the same format of The Office, told through the lens of a documentary crew. But instead of following the employees of a paper company, the new series will follow the staff at a small newspaper working to keep the paper business afloat in a slightly different sense with a small staff of community members.
Along with Nunez, the cast for the new series also includes Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), Chelsea Frei (Poker Face), Melvin Gregg (American Vandal), Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League Of Their Own), Alex Edelman (Just For Us), Ramona Young (Santa Clarita Diet) and Tim Key (The Witchfinder).
Announced guest stars for the new project include Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch, Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim and Tracy Letts.
No premiere date has been announced for the series as of yet, though it will stream exclusively on Peacock.
