Here are all the details on Maggie Siff's new role as Law & Order DA Nicholas Baxter's new romantic partner after a shake-up in his marriage.

There's a new love interest in Law & Order District Attorney Nicholas Baxter’s life.

How to Watch

Watch Law & Order Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Maggie Siff — famous for her roles on several hit TV shows — will play Baxter’s (Tony Goldwyn) girlfriend in a new episode of the legal drama debuting March 13, 2025.

Baxter's marriage fell apart in dramatic fashion at the end of Season 23, and he hasn't been seen with his wife, or any other love interests, since.

Fans are likely eager to meet the new woman in the dedicated district attorney’s life, "Kate," who was hinted at for the first time in Season 24, Episode 14 of Law & Order. The mystery woman came up when Baxter returned to his office with Assistant District Attorney Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) and Lieutenant Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney) and noticed a bottle of wine on his desk.

Baxter's assistant explained that his "new friend dropped it off," and the DA then told a deeply-interested Price and Brady that the friend was "Kate," and "she likes me."

In Season 24, Episode 15, "Crossing Lines," Attorney Kate Norris (Siff) makes her debut as Baxter's love interest, and is seen in photos from the episode with Baxter in his apartment and in the courthouse.

Playing a savvy New Yorker is not a stretch for Siff, who grew up in the city. Siff attended the prestigious Bronx High School of Science before heading to Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, where she earned a degree in English in 1996, according to a profile by magazine publisher Moffly Media

What TV shows and films has Maggie Siff been in?

Siff gained fame in hit shows like Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, and Billions.

Her big break came when she landed the role of department store heiress Rachel Menken on the advertising firm-themed drama Mad Men. She starred on the series in Season 1, which debuted in 2007, and returned to the role as a guest star for a couple of later seasons.

Siff transformed to play Dr. Tara Knowles on the first six seasons of popular biker-focused crime drama Sons of Anarchy, which launched in 2008.

Viewers may also recognize the actress from her long-running role on Billions as psychiatrist Wendy Rhoades. The show wrapped up in 2023 after seven seasons.

Siff's part as Baxter's girlfriend won’t be the first time that the actress — who can also be seen in films like Push, Leaves of Grass, and The 5th Wave — has appeared on Law & Order. She also guest-starred on the criminal justice drama as Attorney Mahaffey in 2008, according to IMDB. And Siff appeared on sister show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as Emily McCooper in 2006.

Additionally, fans may have previously spotted Siff in guest-starring roles on shows like Nip/Tuck, Grey's Anatomy, Third Watch, Rescue Me, and Life on Mars

Where is Nicholas Baxter’s wife on Law & Order

Fans may remember that the fate of Baxter’s marriage to his wife Julia (Tara Westwood) was left hanging in the balance after a dramatic Law & Order Season 23 finale.

As the DA was in the midst of running for election, he was the target of an attempted assassination at a swanky charity gala. The shooter missed, striking and killing a big-time baseball player instead.

Detectives were ultimately able to link the hit to a powerful street gang bent on getting revenge after Baxter put away one of their top leaders.

To put the killer away, Baxter was forced to put his adult daughter Carrie (played by Goldwyn’s real daughter Tess Goldwyn) on the stand — despite his wife’s opposition. Carrie had seen the gunman outside her parents' house shortly before the shooting and was the only one who could prove her dad had been the real target, but placing her on the stand not only put her in danger with the gang but also forced her to expose a dark secret about her own past.

Julia, a pediatric doctor at Mount Sinai Hospital, begged Baxter not to put Carrie on the stand, arguing that his family was “more important than this case or this damn election.”

But Baxter felt he had to do what was right. In the end, his daughter took the stand and the move put his marriage in jeopardy. His wife was noticeably absent from his election watch party and there’s been no reference to her so far in Season 24.
