Why Taylor Swift Sends Kelly Clarkson Flowers After Every "Taylor's Version" Release
Swift is a lifelong gift-giver and never fails to show Clarkson her appreciation for championing the Taylor's Version concept.
Kelly Clarkson couldn't have guessed that a simple suggestion would spark one of the biggest moves in modern music. And Taylor Swift is grateful.
To understand the move we're talking about, here's some context. In 2019, Swift's former record label, Big Machine, sold the masters of her first six studio albums, a move that deeply upset her. But a recommendation from Clarkson gave Swift a fruitful path forward. The "Breakaway" singer took to X (formerly Twitter) after this news broke and wrote, "@taylorswift13 just a thought: U should go in & re-record all the songs that U don't own the masters on exactly how U did them but put brand new art & some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions. I'd buy all of the new versions just to prove a point."
This was in part the genesis of the Taylor's Version album re-releases Swift has been doing since 2021. To thank Clarkson for pitching this brilliant idea, Swift sends her flowers after each re-release is put into the world.

Taylor Swift loves thanking Kelly Clarkson for suggesting Taylor's Version
"You know what's so funny? [Swift] just sent me flowers," Clarkson told E! News.. "She's so nice, she did. She was like, 'Every time I release something'—cause she just did 1989. I got that really cute cardigan, too."
"I love how kind she is, though," Clarkson continued. "She's a very smart businesswoman. So, she would have thought of that. But it just sucks when you see artists that you admire and you respect really wanting something, and it's special to them. You know, if they're going to find a loophole, you find a loophole. And she did it and literally is, like, the best-selling artist I feel like of all-time now."
To say that the Taylor's Version concept has been successful would be an understatement. So far, she's released four of her first six albums again (Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989), which all debuted at number-one on the Billboard 200, spending several weeks on the chart. Clarkson's not done finding flowers on her doorstep, either. As of March 2025, fans await Swift's re-recording of 2017's Reputation and her 2006 eponymous debut.
