Why Gwen Stefani Says She Would 'Never' Get a Chair Turn on The Voice
"There's no way," she said.
Gwen Stefani made a very exciting appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show this November. While there, she talked about her experience being a Coach on The Voice for five seasons and gave a sincere take on the amazing talent she’s seen on the show throughout the years.
When Barrymore asked Stefani what she thinks her outcome would be if she did a Blind Audition herself, the “Hollaback Girl” was honest.
“I would never get a chair turn. There’s no way. No way,” Stefani said. “This is the thing about The Voice, the whole thing is very different than watching someone sing a song. That’s the whole point is that you’re eliminating any of those other sensory things, you’re just hearing the voice. I feel like my voice has been—it’s like a character voice. Some of these singers are so technically incredible that come on the show, they’re so gifted as singers...I don't know if on a show like The Voice I would get a chair turn. I feel like I can get someone to listen [to my voice] on the radio.”
To this, Barrymore said, “It’s so interesting because it’s true: As the viewer, we do get the complete package. And you guys are literally only focused on the voice itself."
To see Stefani put her coaching skills in action and to see some amazing singers showing off their vocal techniques, watch The Voice on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c and next day on Peacock.
