These Are The Most Beloved Couples on This Is Us
The show gave us so many 'ships to root for.
Throughout the six seasons of NBC's This Is Us, fans witnessed the growth (and sad downfalls) of many relationships. Whether it was the central love that Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) Pearson shared or the newer couplings of the Pearsons' kids and grandkids, the show's pairings knew how to tug at heart strings.
Here are the most beloved couples from This Is Us.
Rebecca and Jack's Complex Marriage
The first couple fans saw on the show were Rebecca and Jack, who we met as a young, married couple about to have triplets in 1980.
The show let viewers in on more and more of the young couple's life through flashbacks throughout all six seasons: We saw Jack's pure love for Rebecca alongside his hard struggle with alcoholism. His recovery journey and relapses took a toll on the couple's relationship before he ultimately died due to complications from a fire in the family's house after saving everyone else.
And, though fans watched Rebecca and Jack's life together unfold, it was also clear to them that, in the present day, Jack was dead and Rebecca was married to his best friend, Miguel Rivas (Jon Muertas).
Kate and Toby's Co-Parenting Journey
Another couple that was teased from the very first episode of the show is Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz) and Toby Damon (Chris Sullivan). The pair met in the pilot episode — which both aired and took place in 2016 — at a weight loss support group, and they hit it off because of their similar senses of humor.
Kate and Toby got married in Season 2 Episode 18 ("The Wedding"), and fans saw their sweet dynamic come to fruition when Toby spent much of the wedding day trying to help Kate get her father's old t-shirt.
After an unplanned pregnancy and miscarriage in Season 2, they went through IVF to conceive their son, Jack, and then later adopted a daughter, Hailey (Adelaide Kane), who audiences saw as an adult during flash-forward scenes in Season 6.
Ultimately, though, their marriage did not last, and the pair opted to divorce in Season 6 Episode 12 ("Katoby").
Beth and Randall's Long-Lasting Love
Another pivotal relationship in the show was Randall Pearson (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth Clarke Pearson (Susan Kelechi Watson), who met in college at an event for new freshman, as seen in Season 3, Episode 13 ("Our Little Island Girl").
Throughs flashbacks, fans witnessed both their first date and their wedding day — both in Season 3, Episode 17 ("R&B") — as well as the birth of their first daughter, Tess (Eris Baker) in Season 2, Episode 6 ("The 20s").
Their second daughter Annie (Faithe C. Herman) was born a few years later, after which they decided to foster (and later adopt) a third daughter, Deja (Lyric Ross).
Their family stayed strong throughout all the seasons of the show, and Beth and Randall gave fans a valuable depiction of what steady, stable love looks like.
Kevin and Sophie's "First Crush" Love
Throughout the series, Kevin Pearson (Justin Hartley) had a few failed relationships, but it was clear he wasn't allowing himself to truly love any of his partners. It turned out that his heart was really searching for Sophie (Alexandra Breckenridge) all along.
In Season 1, fans saw that Sophie was best friends with Kate when Kevin, age 10 at the time, fell in love with her. The couple married in their college years but divorced soon after and lost touch with each other.
In Season 6 Episode 14 ("The Night Before the Wedding"), though, Kevin and Sophie found each other again. After some convincing from Rebecca, Sophie realized it was time to give Kevin another chance.
Deja and Malik, High School Sweethearts
Another "first love" romance, Deja and Malik (Asante Blackk) fell in love when they were just high schoolers. Their first kiss happened in Season 4, Episode 7 ("The Dinner and the Date"), after they were caught sneaking around.
Beth and Randall said that she could see Malik (under parental supervision) and asked her to tell them about him. "He makes me feel like myself. Like I have a piece of home," she said to them.
Later on, Malik pulled back from Deja because he worried he'd get in the way of her success, but that didn't stop them from eventually ending up together. In the series finale ("Us"), Deja told Randall that she and Malik were expecting a boy and were going to name him William.
