Why Gwen Stefani Saved Destiny Leigh After That 'Beautiful' Battles Performance
It was a show-stopping Battle.
If there was one show-stopping Battle on The Voice Season 22, Episode 9, it was between Destiny Leigh and Justin Aaron on Team Gwen [Stefani]. The two sang "No More Drama" by Mary J. Blige, and it was absolutely mind-blowing. Every note, every facial expression, every moment was perfect—from both performers.
That's why Stefani picked Aaron as the winner of the Battle but swiftly made the move to Save Leigh. (This was Stefani's only Save in the Battles.)
"I just want to say, Gwen, you are such an inspiration," Leigh told Stefani before the Save happened. "I am so grateful to have this opportunity."
Right after this, Stefani gave Leigh a hug and then hit her Save button, commenting, "If somebody takes the time to do her nails like that, she's gotta be on Team Gwen" (a reference to Leigh's stunning and intricate manicure).
"You are just a beautiful person," Stefani continued. "Honestly, I really want to get to know you more, so I'm excited."
Stefani reiterated this during a show interview, saying, "Destiny made all the Coaches light up. There was just a glow about her, so I had to Save Destiny."
And in her interview after the episode, Leigh said, "I can't believe that she wanted to Save me" before Stefani surprised her for one more hug.
So sweet! So heartfelt! And now we get to see what else Destiny Leigh has in store for us!
