The Roots Make Up Songs About Swifties, Halloween Candy, and Fall Birthdays on The Tonight Show
Audience members helped The Tonight Show's ace house band craft songs on the spot in this game from the October 10 episode.
Halloween candy, fall birthdays, and Taylor Swift's passionate fans provided artistic inspiration in a game on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon's Tuesday episode, as Host Jimmy Fallon and several audience members played "Freestylin' with The Roots."
"Guys, I always say that we are lucky to greatest band in all of late night, The Roots from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,"told the audience. The game puts the Grammy-winning band to the test, asking them to make up three different songs about people chosen from the Tonight Show audience. Unsurprisingly, the skilled ensemble rose to the challenge.
First up, an audience member named Linnea who wore an excellent outfit: Leather pants festooned with pink hearts, and a "Pete's Girl" baby-T featuring October 10 guest Pete Davidson's face in a heart. After asking Linnea some Taylor Swift-themed questions, The Roots improvised a Taylor-esque instrumental as lead vocalist Black Thought shared what he'd put together: "This is for the Swifties/We're all in our fifties..."
Freestylin' with The Roots, Halloween Candy edition
The Roots followed up their Swiftie jam with a bouncy polka song that prompted Fallon to do a merry jig. Finally, Fallon met an audience member who weighed in on the worst Halloween candy—Fallon puzzled over his choice of Twizzlers, and we have to agree—and, after a few more questions, The Roots ramped up into their own spin on Rockwell's creepy 1980s classic, "Somebody's Watching Me."
