The 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show Earns 5 Emmy Nominations
The show aired on NBC this year.
It looks like the Television Academy really enjoyed the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
This year's halftime extravaganza, which aired on NBC, received five nominations for the 2022 Emmys: Outstanding Variety Special (Live), Outstanding Music Direction, Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special, and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special. The last award is specifically for Hamish Hamilton, who's directed the Super Bowl Halftime Shows every year since 2010. The 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show was sponsored by Pepsi and starred Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent.
“Dre is the one who called us all to be part of this moment and it’s an honor because we love and respect him so much,” Blige told USA Today about the halftime show's inception. “Everyone [in the lineup] is an Artist that Dre produced or wrote for or has a connection. You get that call and you’re like, ‘What do you want me to do and I’m there.’ And if he gives you two or three minutes of Super Bowl time … wow. I appreciate the offer and I’ve earned the right to be anywhere that amazing. I’m going to be a team player and let them know, thank you for recognizing my talent.”
Watch the Emmys Monday, September 12 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. (You can also stream the 2022 Emmy Awards live on Peacock.) Click here to read a complete list of this year's major Emmy nominations.
