Metaphysic Hints Who Could Get the Deep Fake Treatment in AGT's Final
The Artificial Intelligence Act has even more tricks up their sleeve.
Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, and Terry Crews have officially advanced to the—wait. Let us start over. It's actually Metaphysic that qualified for the America's Got Talent Season 17 finale.
During August 31's Live Results Show, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) group joined comedian Mike E. Winfield in the week's fan-voted Top 2. (The remaining nine Acts were eliminated.) This means that both Acts will move on to compete in the September 13 Final for the $1 million grand prize. They'll join fellow performers magician Nicolas Ribs, singer Sara James, girl group Chapel Hart, magician Yu Hojin, country singer Drake Milligan, and saxophonist Avery Dixon as the Season 17 Finalists. The rest of the top Acts will be revealed next week.
Metaphysic first bamboozled us all when they used their AI technology to transform AGT veteran singer Daniel Emmet into Cowell during the second round of Auditions. For the Live Shows they served up another delightful deep fake, this time making it appear as if Cowell, Mandel, and Crews were all joining in to sing the opera classic "Nessun Dorma." Needless to say, the Judges thoroughly enjoyed the Act. Heidi Klum called the group "iconic" while Sofia Vergara said, "I think it's scary, and I think it's fascinating at the same time."
However, it was Cowell who delivered the highest compliment of the summer. "This is not the best Act of the night. This is the best Act of the series so far," he said.
While on stage, Metaphysic member Thomas Graham hinted that we could see Vergara and Klum singing in the Final, in addition to "one of the greatest rock n' roll icons of all time."
His partner, Chris Umé, later told CinemaBlend, "I'm not gonna get a lot of sleep. I'm sure of that. We kind of have an idea of what we would be doing in the Finals if we get there. So we've been preparing a bit for sure, but still a lot of work. I always believe when you're with your back against the wall, you'll always come up with creative solutions. And I think this is a perfect case for that."
