Watch the AGT: Extreme Drone Show That Earned Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer

From the towering sway pole to winner Alfredo Silva and his Cage Riders, America's Got Talent: Extreme brought us some pretty, well, extreme Acts. But one unique performance stood out from the rest: The AGT: Extreme drones.

While there were no 50-foot ramps or dirt bikes involved, the drone light show put on by Verge Aero took the Judges' breath away. Verge Aero, comprised of an unassuming group of four engineers from Philadelphia, brought their 160 drones to the AGT: Extreme stage in the premiere episode, putting on a colorful floating display that reached as high as 350 feet tall.

"What we really want to do is scale up and become something even more spectacular that we can perform in the United States and around the world," said Verge Aero member Tony Samaritano.

Fellow member Nils Thorjussen added, "We don't have deep pockets. We are funded pretty much internally and that's why we're here. So winning would be incredible. It would give us the resources to go out and hire more engineers so that we can be a worldwide phenomena and make beautiful shows."

While the group didn't end up winning the show, they were automatically advanced to the finals when an impressed Simon Cowell awarded them a Golden Buzzer.

"That was just sensational," the Judge said. "There are so many ways to define the word 'extreme,' and I think this, for me, comes under spectacular."

The team has performed at President Joe Biden's election celebration and the Electric Daisy Carnival. If that sounds steep, there's a reason for the high price tag. 

"Because the technology is so new, drone light shows are still quite expensive, but prices are coming down over time as the technology matures," their site says. "The cost of a show is priced on a per drone basis ranging between $350 and $700 per drone, depending on a variety of factors such as show complexity, location, and planning timeline."
