Abigail Spencer has made appearances on a number of high-profile TV shows, but after the Summer of Suits, one role stands apart from the rest.
Watching her flex her comedy muscles alongside Jon Cryer and Donald Faison on NBC's new sitcom Extended Family, you'd be forgiven for thinking Abigail Spencer is a born comedian.
But the actress has actually spent most of her career working in dramas, and if you're wondering why she looks so familiar ... you probably caught her during the Summer of Suits.
Yep, Extended Family stars the actress behind one of Suits' most memorable characters. On Extended Family, Spencer plays Julia, who is dealing with cohabitating and co-parenting with her ex-husband — which becomes much more complicated after she falls for the owner of one of her ex's favorite sports team.

Who did Abigail Spencer play on Suits?
Spencer played Dana "Scottie" Scott, J.D. on Suits. The character only appeared in 15 episodes, starting in Season 1, but she made a huge impact on the show as one of womanizer Harvey Specter's (Gabriel Macht) first serious love interests, a woman who was his equal in the courtroom and the bedroom.
Scott was just behind him academically in law school at Harvard, where they had a brief fling before picking things up again as adults. Their relationship doesn't work out, though, and Dana is one of the first to point out to Harvey that he's clearly in love with his assistant Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty).

Abigail Spencer also starred on NBC's Timeless
Spencer played Lucy Preston, the main protagonist of NBC's time-travel mystery-adventure show which ran for two seasons between 2016 and 2018. Preston is a historian tasked with preserving the history while she and the rest of the "Time Team" travel through time and space to battle a nefarious cabal. Despite Lucy's best efforts, things don't exactly go to plan.
Spencer also has a long list of recurring character credits on some of television's most prestigious series, like Mad Men, True Detective, and Grey's Anatomy.
Born in Florida, Spencer, a mother of one son, is an avid traveler who enjoys visiting beautiful destinations around the world.

Mike O'Malley (Glee) is the creator of this new multi-cam comedy. The official synopsis for Extended Family reads: "After an amicable divorce, Jim and Julia decide to continue to raise their kids at the family home while taking turns on who gets to stay with them. Navigating the waters of divorce and child-sharing gets more complicated for Jim when Trey, the owner of his favorite sports team, enters the picture and wins Julia’s heart."
We can so imagine Abigail at the center of a love triangle!

We can't wait to tune into Extended Family, premiering Saturday, December 23rd at 8/7c on NBC, with new weekly episodes returning Tuesday, January 2nd at 8:30/7:30c on NBC. All episodes will be available to stream next day on Peacock.
